Wednesday, October 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

ESL families are welcome.

College Application Services

You have worked hard throughout high school. The SAT process in done and you have your improved scores in hand. The next step is beginning the job of narrowing down your college choices where you have a shot at being accepted and getting your entry paperwork in and done.

Parents and students, don’t be fooled. Applying to today’s top colleges can be difficult. The application process itself is a tedious and time consuming process. Now that you have listened to years of teacher changing expectation each class and school year, you might be feeling quite a bit confused right now, wondering on the application essay what universities are looking for. What’s more, what kinds of students are they looking for and what kind of future graduates do they want?

In a competitive atmosphere where thousands of students vie for only a few hundred coveted positions, what will make your application stand out?

We know–and we can help you. There’s a big secret kept among academic professionals… The basic college application essay format is something that can be taught.

If you paid attention in English class, you probably already have fundamental ideas in place about how to write an essay with a limited amount of words that answers a particular and specific question in such a way that your answer completes the tack. However, having a professional who is trained to help plan, revise and edit your product before you send it away in that final envelope can truly help, by making sure it is polished and has that finishing touch. After all, the better the essay, the more likely it is you will be getting a welcome letter (rather than a no) back.

If you are an ESL student (or a native English speaker) in the process of applying to American colleges, or getting close enough that you ought to be thinking about preparing your essays now, it is the right time to talk to us. Find out more about College Application Services by emailing contactus@tri-edtutoring.com attn: WRITING SERVICES or visit www.tri-edtutoring.com to learn more about who we are and how we can help.

We have education specialists who can meet with you in person, do consultations by phone and email, or who can work with you long distance using GOTO MEETING online. Applying to college and choosing a school may just be one of the most momentous decisions in life made by anyone. Whether you work with us for a few short hours to have us evaluate your work as Writing Consultants or we work as writing coaches to help you through multiple application letters, we are happy to be a part of the process.

We know.

We’ve all been through it ourselves.

We are trained as tutors and writing consultants to make your writing piece stand out.

S.A.T. Score Reporting to Colleges Changes in Favor of Students Successfully Improving Scores Impressions by Adding SCORE CHOICE

Saturday, October 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

New Score Reporting Policy for the SAT

Starting with the March 2009 administration of the SAT, CollegeBoard (the makers of the SAT) will change the way that scores are submitted to colleges. In the past, when a student submitted his or her SAT scores to colleges, the admissions committee would see the scores from all of the attempts that the student made. This created a stressful situation for students because they knew that one bad testing day would follow them around and possibly jeopardize their admissions into a top school.

CollegeBoard recognized the need for a change to help alleviate some of the anxiety associated with the high stakes of the SAT. Score Choice, the new score reporting policy approved by CollegeBoard, will give students the choice of which SAT scores they would like to send to colleges. For example, if a student took the SAT in March and May of 2009, that student could choose to send only the May scores. This choice is optional and does need to be selected by the student.

If Score Choice is not selected, the entire score report will be sent by default. Score Choice is available for both the SAT I and the SAT II (Subject Tests). It will also be retroactive after it has been implemented in March 2009. Therefore, juniors who are taking an SAT date prior to March 2009 will still have the option to withhold their scores because they will not be reporting them until the beginning of their senior year.

Another important note is that the entire SAT score for a particular date must be sent if selected. For example, a student is not able to choose only the reading score from the March SAT and the math and writing scores from the May SAT date.

For more information about the college report standards, view the article from CollegeBoard.com here:
